Eucalyptus … Eucalyptus cladocaylyx, nice tree, poetic justice id say, perhaps we Arborists should start using our true title as Arboricultural Technitions instead, it may seperate the wankers, just a thought.
It may if you spell it properly if not, your just another dumb tree trimmer.
A tree trimmer.

That would be true … That would be true if they had actually been properly trained individuals.
The image seems to show the bulk of the tree over the yard, not the structure – not until they broke it anyway.
As you wrote, gravity probably exceeded their lack of technique.
Hard to tell from a video alone, but it may have been best to take it down in pieces.
It’s nice that this video is still posted, as its one of the best illustrations on the internet of how not to be an arborist.

It has nothing to … It has nothing to do with decay. The notch was very poorly cut.
First and foremost, the weight of the tree was all over the pergola. The limbs should have been removed to prevent the tree from falling that direction.
Second, there was about five inches of bypass cut in the notch. This means that essential there was no notch. once the bypass cut closed the tree broke off and the hinge at the back of the notch could no longer work. The tree fell were gravity took it.

That was an attempt … That was an attempt to drop the tree to the right of the ladder, where the notch was.
But it did not go where they set the notch for. Because the decay allowed it to rip away first when they tugged on it. It fell back behind the ladder, not to the right.
Virtually no safety equipment and virtually no knowledge about doing that kind of work right, or how to read defects in trees.

That was stupid on … That was stupid on so many levels. No protective equipment. No controlled plan on how to take the tree down. Actually…not much of anything. They probably didn’t even have proper insurence, so the poor home-owner is probably flipping the bill for their idiotic mistakes. It’s lucky that noone was hurt or killed there.
