How did you guys break your ankle?I was skiing and i ran in to a tree. what bout’ yall?
Posted by admin on Feb 15, 2010
haha, i swear i don’t want to break my ankle. TRUST ME! i hated it. i had surgery and everything! haha. Anyway, how did yall’ break your ankle?
I’ve broken my left ankle twice, my right once… First time was my left, when I was 13. I was running around this paddock at our weekend farm with our dog, and managed to trip over this tiny (about an inch high) mound… I fell over, my ankle got mangled… Ouch…
The second time was also courtesy of the snow… My school has a ski camp in year nine. We do all this cross country skiing as well as downhill, and I managed to get one of my ski’s stuck in the snow and trip over. I could walk on it, and managed to get to base camp, but then ended up going home the next day… It turned out it was broken, only just though.
The final time was in my last year of school, and isn’t strictly my ankle – I love to play rugby (and better Aussie version of what the yanks call football) and was in the schools top team. We made it through to the Grand Finals (quite a big deal) and I managed to somehow get the ball and sprint… There was, unfortuantely, someone who managed to catch up with me. I was about to thrown myself over the try line and he dived at my legs, trying to get me down. Anyway, I threw myself forwards, my right leg is being pulled down, and back… Ouch again… This time it was my knee and femur… Not pretty…
Anyway, hope you get better soon, good luck!!
How do I kill a sumach tree stump?
Posted by admin on Feb 15, 2010
I chopped it down two years ago and it came back with a vengeance. It’s right against the foundation so I want it out! It’s impossible to get a stump chopper in this space and forget manoeuvering a shovel. I’ve found the main roots and have cut them off in the ground. We have a bylaw agains using products such as Roundup. Any suggestions?
Thanks….
there is a product called Hi-YIELD STUMP REMOVER. you will need to drill a 1" hole 10" deep on top and on the side a 1" hole 3" from the top of the stump at a slant to connect if possible with the bottom of the top hole. then pour 1/4 lb. into each hole then fill with water and let stand for 4 to 6 weeks. I used this product on a 12" stump of a popcorn tree and within 8 weeks i could kick it over with my foot.
Certified arborist?
Posted by admin on Feb 15, 2010
Is there any certified arborists that can give tips on maintaing trees? I’m a big tree lover and love watching tree trimmers trim trees. How do you guys climb big palm trees? Any tips on pruning? I prune my trees; however, would like some additional info.
As Cat said heading to the library is a good option. You can also check out sherrilltree.com, tcia.org, and isa.org for more information. Sherrill’s catalog, which you can request for free I believe, has lots of informational illustrations and mini-articles in it that describe various facets of climbing and pruning. You could also check around your area and see if there are any recreational tree climbing groups. I’m sure they’d love to have another member and they’d be able to teach you some things about climbing. It’s a great time.
Where can I buy a tree stump for an art project?
Posted by admin on Feb 15, 2010
I was thinking about calling a a tree stump removal person to see if they would sell tree stumps that they’re removed, but I don’t know if they actually remove it in one piece, or shred it to bits. I found a 12 inch tree stump for about $20 online I could buy, but I was looking for something bigger. Any ideas? Thanks!
I’m sure if you called a tree stump removal place locally you could figure out how much they cost to remove the stump then all you have to do is find a stump to remove. You can go ask local farmers if they have any they need removed and explain that it’s for an art project, I’m sure they’ll be glad to help. I know that it is very possible to get the whole stump out in one piece you just have to find someone that can do it.
How do I get my Mobile home park to cut down all of my pine trees?
Posted by admin on Feb 15, 2010
I live in a Mobile home park. It is a Co op so all of its members own the park. It has a lot of pine trees around my lot esp i have 7 trees on my lot and they wreak havoc. They dump pine pitch all over my car they leave me with no lawn because of the pine needles and just last this week a branch feel and destroyed both of my cars which I have to pay for my cars to get fixed and they are not even my trees and my property. They are extremely expensive to cut down because of the hazards and I cant afford to have them cut down. So I need to know how I can get them to pay for it. I even told them If they get them lopped down I would finish cutting them up and get rid of them. That would be a lot more cheaper for them as well. I just worry every nite now one is going to fall on my house and I dont know what to do .
throw a tarp over the car when you park it.
Who ever owns the trees is responsible for removing branches etc that could be a hazard. If the park owns the trees, show them the bill. They are responsibly for paying, whether they will or not is another story but you could do what you can and even take them to small claims court if you have the energy.
A certified arborist should inspect the trees to determine if there aer any additional hazard branches in danger of falling. White pines do tend to have brittle branches and if they are white pines planted near a parking area, that was a poor choice of species.
Pine needle mulch is one of the most desired and expensive mulches to purchase. You don’t need a lawn anyway — let the needles lay you have maintenance free surface to enjoy that doesn’t use any fossil fuels to maintain.
Don’t just cut them all down. We share the planet with plants and animals and these valuable trees and serving an important role in the environment. There are ways to learn to live with them.
If you have to cut them, replace them with something else that won’t have the brittle branches.
